WEAVER OF FAIRYTALES

Fashion's prince channeling arguably literature's most famous.

Oh, and there's Cate Blanchett thrown in the mix too.

Fashion's prince is of course Tim Walker, a weaver of fairytales and a genius in every sense of the word.

SAVAGE BEAUTY

Lee Alexander McQueen. A name that everybody's heard but a person and designer that I knew nothing about.

Until Saturday that was when I attended the opening day of the absolutely breathtakingly incredible Savage Beauty exhibition currently showing at the V&A Museum in London.

Curated by Claire Wilcox and brought over from New York, the exhibition was the most amazing one I'd ever seen.

Every room was dedicated to a different iconic collection with the decor and layout of each space reflecting the nature of the clothing. It was mind-blowing and made me realise what an absolute creative genius McQueen really was. It was phenomenal that every collection in those five odd rooms had been thought up by the same mind. If only I could have a portion of that imagination!

The exhibition is running from 14th March - 2nd August and I couldn't recommend it more strongly.

No photos were allowed but the above picture is one of my favourite portraits taken of him and I can't really explain why. Maybe it's the cigarette in the skull's mouth? Or the wistful, nonchalant look in his eye.

McQueen changed the face of fashion for good and this exhibition is the powerful representation of a life worth recording.

HAPPY (BELATED) CHRISTMAS

Happy happy (belated) christmas to you all!

I know that for many it isn't the best time of year and for some it is.

But I hope that wherever you are and whoever you were with, you had a very happy day.

Oh and Christmas wouldn't be complete without an old shoot courtesy of the wonder that is Tim Walker.

The absolute dream.

BOOKWORM

My beloved collection of coffee table books.

I'm quite impressed really with the number I've racked up over the last few years.
I never stop asking for them and people never stop surprising me with the ones they find.

They don't only look good but they are also the best source of inspiration when the Internet just isn't cutting it.

If I had to have a favourite?! It would definitely be Pictures by Tim Walker. It's the most beautiful book and the photos just never get old.

Books as follows from the top down:
Home Sweet Home BANKSY
The Art of Making Tees
Untitled
The Street Art Stencil Book
The Granny Alphabet TIM WALKER
The Stitch Bible
Vintage Fashion & Couture KERRY TAYLOR
Portrait of an Era READER'S DIGEST
Nick Knight
Vogue Model
Vogue Covers
(Can't remember that one!)
Avedon Fashion RICHARD AVEDON

BEDTIME READING

New literature in the form of Tim Walker's new volume, The Granny Alphabet. A witty and oh so sweet book dedicated to those ladies who, let's face it, are pretty darn awesome. And the other book in the duo is a beautifully illustrated alphabet of all things wonderful about grannies.

Pretty lush when all I've got to read is a never ending pile of uni books.
