THE LAST RAYS

So today marks my final day on the South Coast.

I cannot quite believe that three months is up. It has gone so ridiculously fast, I don't even know where the time has gone.
It only feels like last week that I arrived in Sri Lanka, too hot, a bit homesick and with no idea what the next few months were going to entail.

In the end, it has turned out to be the most incredible few months.
I have experienced things I could never have dreamed of and met people who have inspired, horrified, angered and amazed me.

Sri Lanka has been nothing that I expected it to be.

But it has been so much more.

MOUNT LAVINIA

Mount Lavinia is the closest beach to the city of Colombo and so it is where I headed off to last weekend to relax and take a time out from the busy city life.

These photos show the progression of the setting sun, a process which was over in about five minutes.

It was a sheer spectacle and one that I enjoyed from the balcony of the beach bar that you can see in the first photo.

I realise that many of my posts are of the sunset...

I guess you could say that I am just chasing the sun, every place I visit just transforms it completely giving me an entirely new photo that is nothing like the previous one.

My time here in Sri Lanka is almost up, only a couple of weeks are left which is bizarre when it feels like just last week I was packing to leave.

I can promise that there will be many more sunsets to enjoy between now and then.
And maybe some other photos too! Maybe...

THE SKY'S ON FIRE

So some drives home truly are better than any other.

The road trip back to the city from the coast last weekend included this as a backdrop.

A sky like a fiery canvas and an absolute stunner of an evening.

A show that was over in minutes but was even more beautiful in its briefness.

CITY SANCTUARY

Even in the busiest, nosiest, loudest cities, you can always find a moment of sanctuary.

For me that will always be a setting sun.
Wherever I am in the world, be in city, beach or hills, Europe, Asia or Australia, sunsets are when I feel most at peace.

They are always beautiful and no two are ever the same.

I am constantly amazed by what I see and this one that my tuk-tuk driver kindly pulled over to let me photograph was no exception.

Colombo, I think I'm starting to rather like you.
