MONDAY MOTIVATION #8

This weeks motivational words come from an incredible author called Nicholas Bouvier who I only just discovered as he wrote one of his most famous books based on the fort where I'm living.

He writes poetical prose in his novel "The Scorpion-Fish" that captures perfectly the people and country of Sri Lanka.

Oh and this sunset?! The view from the hotel I'm staying at in Colombo, only a stretch of grass and a road separating me from the sea.

Too priceless for my own words so I'll let Mr Bouvier tell you how I'm feeling.

"The morning, rich with expectations, was lighter than a bubble.
To all its suggestions, my answer was: yes"

ALMOST THE WEEKEND #7

I haven't been listening to much music since I've been out here-no time really!

But after writing all afternoon I just had a mini dancing break to this song.

And now I feel re-charged and ready to go out and shoot some more photographs!

Hope you're having a cracking almost the weekend Thursday

SILHOUETTES

One night last week as I was walking home, the sunset just took my breath away.
I mean every day it's pretty good but this night it was like no other I'd ever seen.

Just peeping over the top of the wall, it silhouetted the people on it, creating shadows that danced in the sunlight.

Like I said, breath taking.

NOTICING THE DETAILS

This is a country where you have to look closer, just that little bit deeper.
What you think something seems to be, there's always something there you didn't notice before.

What looks like a yellow flower actually has leopard spots inside it.

Fizzy drinks are always in glass bottles, it keeps them cooler & the plastic isn't dangerous for animals.

A sunset is always more beautiful over the sea.

This tuk-tuk was not for hire, it was full of the days freshest fruit and veg.

The buses all have incredibly detailed paintings on the front of them, no two are the same.

All these little girls have their hair in plaits, the colour of the ribbon corresponds to each school.

This cart was unattended, its owner putting their trust in the people who wandered past.

Sri Lanka is beautiful.
I'm just starting to notice the details.

ALMOST THE WEEKEND #6

My first July Almost The Weekend all the way from the other side of the world.

Sri Lanka is a place of blue seas, white sands and magical sunsets.
This song for me makes me think of all those things. It's a travelling song, one that has followed me around the world.
When I listen to it, I can't help but smile.

A HAIRY FRUIT

The mysterious hair fruit

The mosque at dusk
A round-up of my last few days exploring the fort, absolutely sweltering days but really interesting ones. Safe to say I'm a tad burnt but oh well!

The fort is one of those places that everywhere you look, there's a little corner, a doorway or an empty street that looks so photogenic I can't help but stop.
I've only been here a week and already taken about 400 snaps!

So the hairy fruit...I'm still unsure as to what its name is but it tasted like a cross between a pear and a nectarine. V weirdly nice actually. Refreshing. Bought from a little man by the beach.

Hope you're enjoying my little snapshots of Sri Lankan life.
Oh and I know the lighthouse is in there again-it'll probs be in every post I do as it looks different every day! Hope you don't mind.

And they're are no piccys of me because this heat really does not agree with me, my hair or my face at all.
Once I'm back to looking my best I'll be sure to get some snaps.

HASHTAG FROM WHERE I LIVE

The beautiful Buddhist temple across the bay

The company where I'm working

The view from where I live!!

Spices

Sri Lankan cooking class, in which I excelled of course

Sunset-the most beautiful time of day

So nothing like being dropped in at the deep end!

Straight into work right from the word go. But it's absolutely fascinating. Galle Fort is an extraordinary place with the most bizarrely amazing mix of people.

I did a little cooking course yesterday and so over the next three months hope to perfect my skills so when I come home I can impress everyone with my talent! Not sure that'll work but I'm at least going to try!

Delicious food every place I go, the friendliest people, the most gorgeous views but the heat...oh wow is it unbelievable!! Really hoping I'll get used to it as it's stupid levels of heat.

All the all the first few days have been a very hot whirlwind but a fascinating one.
Feeling excited about what is going to happen over the next few weeks.

Stay tuned.

NOT TOO SHABBY

So I made it safe and sound. V nearly missing my second flight, so stressful but I didn't!

And Sri Lanka is just as beautiful as I remember, Galle especially.

I'm living pretty much opposite this lighthouse which isn't too shabby at all!
And I'm typing this as the sun sets, listening to the sea against the shore so all in all it's defo looking promising.

By the sounds of things I'm going to be pretty flat out for the next month so for more up to date snaps do follow me on Instagram, otherwise I'll try to post as much as possible.

Catch ya later!
