THE SKY'S ON FIRE

So some drives home truly are better than any other.

The road trip back to the city from the coast last weekend included this as a backdrop.

A sky like a fiery canvas and an absolute stunner of an evening.

A show that was over in minutes but was even more beautiful in its briefness.

CHEEKY SNAPSHOTS #2

Every city has its graffiti but I just loved the simplicity of the one word floating on the white wall

The view from my kitchen window, just a little snippet of the outside world

The city at sunset, just showing off really

Sipping on some fancy cocktails, one of which was aptly titled 'English Lady'

Hashtag big city life no?!

A few snapshots of a week in the city. And a pretty lush week it was too.

From random graffiti round every corner to tiny local restaurants that serve the best food around, tuk tuk drivers who always want to argue over the price and bus drivers who have a death wish, random cows wandering past huge department stores and cake, a whole lot of cake.

The city is always busy, there is always something to look at, something that will catch you eye.

And I'm loving it.

ALMOST THE WEEKEND #9

A weekend filled with feet up, beer in hand, salty skin and sunny afternoons called for a tune that was chilled out and beachy, a soundtrack to doing nothing extremely well.

This track remixed by the mighty Kygo is the perfect song for my weekend that was.

But that hasn't stopped me listening to it as I relax in the evenings in the city either.

ESCAPING TO JUNGLE BEACH

So after a busy week in the city, working working working with a little bit of partying, I escaped for the weekend to the south coast.

And the beach where I spent my Sunday was the most idyllic I've been to yet.

It was called Jungle Beach and to get there you had to drive to the top of a hill and then trek down through the jungle. After a fair bit of complaining, when we reached the beach it was pretty clear how worth it the trek had been.

White sand, green jungle trees and a glittering ocean with a view over the whole of Galle bay.

It was the most perfect day, swimming in the sea, seeking shelter in the shade, having a few beers and listening to summery tunes.

Safe to say when sunset hit, the beach became even more beautiful, transforming everything to golden silhouettes.

Salty, sandy, windswept and very happy, we went back up the hill, piled into the car and headed back to the city.

CITY SANCTUARY

Even in the busiest, nosiest, loudest cities, you can always find a moment of sanctuary.

For me that will always be a setting sun.
Wherever I am in the world, be in city, beach or hills, Europe, Asia or Australia, sunsets are when I feel most at peace.

They are always beautiful and no two are ever the same.

I am constantly amazed by what I see and this one that my tuk-tuk driver kindly pulled over to let me photograph was no exception.

Colombo, I think I'm starting to rather like you.

CHEEKY SNAPSHOTS #1

This is what my life looks like all day every day at the moment. Not enough hours to do everything!

City sunsets are still pretty beaut, this one over Diyawana Lake, Colombo taken from a tuk-tuk

Visited the Colombo Good Market and just couldn't resist a fresh juice. This one was a Pink Passion and was absolutely delish

I met this not so little guy today at the beach in Hikkaduwa. Look how wise he looks-such an incredible sight to see.

So these are just a few cheeky snapshots of what my life has looked like over the last week or so.

As you may or may not have noticed, my Instagram account has been totally dead over the last week or so. For this I'm very sorry about but the problem is finding some Wifi! #firstworldproblems
I promise I will try harder this week :)

Anyway thought I'd just keep you all updated on here instead as I document my time in Sri Lanka, one day and one photo at a time.

For now it's off to bed as deadlines wait for no man.

ALMOST THE WEEKEND #8

So I know I'm not going on a road trip anytime soon, unfortunately as they are one of my fav things to do.

But this song is one of my ultimate driving tunes.
It also makes me think of cruising through a city, which I do every day at the moment to get to and from work (albeit in a tuk-tuk/three wheeler!).

So wherever you're driving to, or even if you're just maxing relaxing, turn this tune up really loud and have a little boogie because it's almost the weekend baby.

THE MAD ONES

So I'm working in an office for the next three weeks, which is quite a shock after being able to roam around, come and go all in the name of work that I've been doing for the past six weeks.

Still it'll be good experience I guess and the girls I'm working with are pretty cool!

The thing is, all I keep dreaming about is the beach, the sea and that feeling of freedom that comes with it. The salty air on my face and the sun on my back.

Bring on the freakin' weekend is all I'm saying.

CHECKING IN

Just checking in, late on Sunday evening here with a cheeky snap from my last four days.

I got a much desired week off and headed for the coast, to Arugam Bay for a few days with some friends.
And I had the best time. It was amazing, so chilled, such a cool place, I just lay around on the beach watching the surfers, lay in this hammock reading my book (a lot) and just generally really enjoyed doing nothing.

It was nice to explore a bit of Sri Lanka that I hadn't been to before as well and just see how, for such a tiny country, it really does have so much to offer.

Oh and one night when we were driving out to a party, we saw break lights ahead on the road. Everyone sat up to see what was going on and there, all over the road and surrounding fields was a herd of about 40 elephants, ranging from babies to huge adults! They were trumpeting and running around. It was absolutely incredible, a sight I know I won't see again.

For now though it is back to work as I've come into the city to work for a few weeks which should make an interesting and undoubtably tiring change!

And sorry for the lack of posts.
It's not that I don't have the photos, I just can't used a lot of them as they're for work :)
But don't you worry I'll still be keeping up with you lot, letting you know what's happening on this gorgeous island, giving you little snapshots of what life here is like & how beautiful this place is.

MONDAY MOTIVATION #9

Today's motivational words come from an anonymous member of the city I'm living in.

Sometimes things are spelt wrong, sometimes it matters, more often than not it doesn't.
In this case, most people probably walk past this gate every single day without noticing anything out of the ordinary
.
Maybe the painter did it deliberately, maybe he didn't.
Who knows, maybe I'm rambling.

But I'm all for sometimes letting things slide a bit.

Just chill out and don't sweat the small stuff. It'll worry about itself.
